Chaat Masala is the sour, mouth-puckering spice blend you'll find sprinkled liberally over everything at roadside chaat stalls across South Asia. Tangy and savory with that unmistakable funkiness from amchur (dried mango powder), it's the kind of spice blend that works on cut fruit, cocktail rims, salads, chutneys, and stirred into lemonade for the most delicious twist!. Think of it as the green mango Tajín of the Subcontinent, and then put it on everything.

What makes Diaspora Spice Co.'s Chaat Masala different?

Our Chaat Masala is made with freshly harvested, single-origin spices and wild-foraged ingredients sourced directly from our farm partners across South Asia. With amchur, Wild Heimang Sumac, black salt, cumin, coriander, fennel, mint, and more, this Indian spice blend is bright, tangy, savory, and designed to wake up any dish with just a pinch

How should I use Diaspora Spice Co.'s Chaat Masala?

Chaat Masala is best used as a finishing spice. Sprinkle it over fresh fruit, roasted vegetables, fries, popcorn, yogurt, avocado toast, or grilled corn, or use it as a seasoning for cucumber salad. It's also delicious stirred into lemonade, dusted over chips, or used to rim cocktail and mocktail glasses.

What is chaat masala used for?

Traditionally, chaat masala is sprinkled over Indian street food, fresh fruit, and snacks just before serving. Its signature combination of tangy, savory, salty, and citrusy flavors instantly brightens everything from salads and potatoes to sandwiches, grain bowls, and roasted vegetables.

Can Chaat Masala be used on popcorn and fruit?

Absolutely. It's one of our favorite ways to season popcorn, watermelon, mango, pineapple, oranges, peaches, and cucumbers. As a seasoning for popcorn it adds a tangy, savory kick, and as a seasoning for watermelon or any other sweet fruit it makes each bite taste even juicier, turning simple snacks into something unforgettable.

What foods pair best with Chaat Masala?

Chaat Masala plays well with almost anything that could use a little brightness. Try it as a seasoning for fruit, or on roasted vegetables, potatoes, chickpeas, eggs, yogurt, salads, sandwiches, rice bowls, grilled meats, seafood, or even cocktails and mocktails. A final sprinkle just before serving is all it takes to make flavors pop.

Are all your spices organic?

Our farm partners have been cultivating spices using practices that go "beyond organic" for well over five years. Although they haven't obtained USDA certification yet, this is primarily because the initial certification can be costly and may lead to cycles of debt. To meet USDA standards, four years of inspections and certificates are required after the first certification. However, we consider this process redundant and unnecessary since we conduct thorough testing on every batch we procure. It's a prerequisite for Diaspora Co. to select farm partners whose soil health and agricultural practices align with our internal standards of growing food regeneratively.

Do you sell wholesale?

We do! You can search for our wholesalers using our store locator here. And if you are a wholesaler and don’t see yourself on the locator, please email wholesale@diasporaco.live and we will add you to this ASAP! Thank you!

When do the spices expire? How long do they last?

Most of the spices are good 2 years from the mill date, which is listed on the harvest label sticker on the jar or bag. That being said, our spices are extremely potent and fresh as we take incredible care to source yearly and aim for quality, so 2 years is our most conservative guideline, compared to most spices in the grocery store which are often 5-10 years old upon purchase.

What is the best way to store the spices?

Store them in an airtight container in a dark, dry place. Do not store spices in direct sunlight, as this will shorten their shelf life.
