Frequently Asked Questions

What makes Diaspora Spice Co.'s Paneer Rose different?

Our Paneer Rose is grown rain-fed in India and carefully sun-dried to preserve its vibrant color and extraordinary aroma. These dried rose petals burst with notes of lychee, ripe nectarine, Earl Grey, and honeyed florals, making them just as delicious as they are beautiful.

How can I use Diaspora Spice Co.'s Paneer Rose?

Our Paneer Rose is incredibly versatile. Steep the petals for tea, infuse them into syrups, cocktails, or lemonade, bake them into cakes, cookies, and shortbread, or sprinkle them over yogurt, ice cream, and fresh fruit. They also make a stunning edible garnish for desserts and drinks.

Can dried rose petals be used for tea?

Absolutely. Paneer Rose makes a delicately floral herbal tea on its own, and rose petals for tea pair beautifully with black tea, green tea, chai, chamomile, or hibiscus. Add a little honey and lemon for an especially fragrant cup.

How do you use dried rose petals in baking and desserts?

Rose petals for baking add floral fragrance and subtle fruitiness to cookies, shortbread, scones, rice pudding, ice cream, whipped cream, and syrups. Rose petals for cakes are especially lovely, whether folded into batters or sprinkled over finished desserts as an edible garnish.

Can dried rose petals be used in cocktails?

Yes! Rose petals for cocktails work beautifully in mixed drinks, mocktails, sparkling drinks, and lemonades. Infuse the petals into simple syrup, steep them in spirits, or use them as an edible garnish. Their floral aroma pairs especially well with citrus, berries, gin, sparkling wine, and honey.

Are all your spices organic?

Our farm partners have been cultivating spices using practices that go "beyond organic" for well over five years. Although they haven't obtained USDA certification yet, this is primarily because the initial certification can be costly and may lead to cycles of debt. To meet USDA standards, four years of inspections and certificates are required after the first certification. However, we consider this process redundant and unnecessary since we conduct thorough testing on every batch we procure. It's a prerequisite for Diaspora Co. to select farm partners whose soil health and agricultural practices align with our internal standards of growing food regeneratively.

When do the spices expire? How long do they last?

Most of the spices are good 2 years from the mill date, which is listed on the harvest label sticker on the jar or bag. That being said, our spices are extremely potent and fresh as we take incredible care to source yearly and aim for quality, so 2 years is our most conservative guideline, compared to most spices in the grocery store which are often 5-10 years old upon purchase.

Do you sell wholesale?

We do! You can search for our wholesalers using our store locator here. And if you are a wholesaler and don’t see yourself on the locator, please email wholesale@diasporaco.live and we will add you to this ASAP! Thank you!

What is the best way to store the spices?

Store them in an airtight container in a dark, dry place. Do not store spices in direct sunlight, as this will shorten their shelf life.
